Adesanya got revenge on Pereira at UFC 287 and is champion again
Israel Adesanya reclaimed the UFC lightweight title after getting revenge against Alex Pereira at UFC 287 in Miami. The Nigerian knocked out his opponent at 4:21 minutes of the second round and avenged the defeat in November last year, and achieved his first success over the Brazilian. The two had a pre-MMA history, and Pereira had twice beaten his opponent under kickboxing rules (once by knockout and once by decision).
In the first round, the two relied more on kicks, with Adesanya trying to be more technical in his performances, while Pereira waited for a moment to use his power. In the second part, however, the aggression increased and the champion pressed the challenger near the cage, but was punished with two consecutive right hooks and another right hammer.
Pereira was in real trouble and Octagon referee Dan Miragliotta came to his aid to signal the end of the fight. Adesanya, 33, is once again the champion in the division and has won 8 of his 10 fights in the UFC, and the loss is the first in MMA for Pereira, who committed himself to mixed martial arts entirely in 2020, but otherwise his professional debut it's 2015.
