Almeida recorded his sixth straight victory by dominating Lewis

Jailton Almeida spent nearly 25 minutes dominating Derrick Lewis and earned a unanimous decision win. The Brazilian delighted the local crowd in Sao Paulo with success in the main event of the UFC fight gala, which took place earlier today in the Brazilian metropolis. The Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt prevailed by scores of 50-44, 50-44 and 50-45 on the scorecards as he was either mounted or in a side hold on the Black Beast for most of the five rounds .

"Was that a show for you? I knew he had heavy hands, so I kept him down on the ground," Almeida addressed the audience. The grappling master then challenged the division's former title contender, Cyril Gunn. "We can fight in Paris or in Brazil, it doesn't matter". Almeida relied on positional control throughout the fight. He was in no rush to attack for a submission or ground-and-pound to avoid losing his good position.

He was warned by the head referee several times that he needs to work more on ground strikes or attacking a switch/choke technique. Lewis, who holds the record number of knockouts in the UFC, was able to stand up in several situations, but was unable to capitalize on good attacks and knock Almeida unconscious with any hard punches. The success is the sixth in six matches for the Brazilian. For the first time in his career, he reached the final judge's gong.
