Angry Vinicius: La Liga does not fight racism, it encourages it
The Real Madrid's winger Vinicius Junior was at the center of events in the royal club's 1-0 loss to Valencia in the 35th round of La Liga. The Brazilian became the target of racial abuse in the second half, and at the very end of the match, visibly upset, punched Hugo Duro in the face and received a red card.
After the meeting with Mestalla, Vinicius released an emotional post on social media in which he expressed his disappointment at the fact that La Liga and individual clubs are not taking enough measures to fight racism.
"This is not the first, second or third time that has happened. Racism is normal in La Liga. The management of the league considers it normal, the federation also, and the other clubs encourage it. I am very sad. The championship that belonged to Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, Cristiano and Messi now belongs to racism.
Spain is a wonderful country that accepted me and that I have come to love it , but this has taken on the image of a country where racism is tolerated. I feel sad for the Spaniards who do not agree with this, but today in Brazil, Spain is known as a country of racists. Unfortunately, seeing what happens every week, I can't disprove it. But I am stronger and I will fight the racists to the end. Even if it is far from here," Vinicius wrote.
In the 70th minute, after signaling the referee Ricardo De Burgos Bengoechea about the insults directed at him, Vinicius declared that he did not want to continue playing. This was followed by an appeal from the stadium announcer to the fans to behave themselves.
A little later, Vinicius pointed to a specific Valencia supporter who had insulted him on racial grounds. Over the audio system, they again asked the audience to stop their unrestrained behavior. If the match had gone to a third stoppage, it would have meant an official loss for Valencia.
