Atletico Madrid and Manchester United meet again

The teams of Atletico Madrid and Manchester United  will face tonight in the first match of the 1/8 finals of the Champions League. 

The two teams had only one match against each other 30 years ago, when the Mattresses eliminated their opponent in the second round of the KNK tournament with a total score of 4: 1.

Atletico reached this stage in the tournament for the eighth time in the last nine seasons, and the "red devils" had not participated since the 2018/2019 season.



Home coach Diego Simeone has a lot of problems with the squad. Captain Koke, Daniel Vas and Matheus Cunha remain out of his accounts. Yannick Carasco is serving a sentence, and Toma Lemar and Mario Hermoso are under great question.

The Argentine will rely on speed in attack, where he has players like Joao Felix and Angel Correa. Luis Suarez and Antoine Griezmann will most likely start from the bench.

His opponents  Ralph Rangnik does not have such problems with the team. Injured Edinson Cavani is not the only one leaving for the Spanish capital. From the first minute will start the megastar Cristiano Ronaldo, who has often scored against Atletico in his career.


Against the "mattresses" he played 35 games in which he scored 25 goals (3 hat-tricks) and gave nine assists.

The expectations in both camps are that today it will hardly be clear who will continue, and the fate of the clash will be decided only after the rematch of "Old Trafford".
