Austin Reeves quits the Germany team in favor of the USA
Basketball player Austin Reaves may play for the US national team instead of Germany, reports The Athletic. Like other NBA stars Anthony Edwards and Jaylen Brunson, Reaves has reportedly expressed his desire to play for the United States at the World Cup in the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia from Aug. 25 to Sept. 10.
The Los Angeles Lakers guard has German roots, as my grandmother is German, and this has enabled him to obtain a local passport in 2022. He has previously expressed interest in playing for the German national team.
"We haven't spoken in a while. It's been a few months since I've spoken to anyone from the German team. The plan was not to do anything in the summer, but at some point I'd like it to happen," Reeves told DPA last month.
The roster, which USA coach Steve Kerr, general manager Sean Ford and managing director Grant Hill are preparing, isn't quite ready yet. Austin Reaves had a solid season with the Los Angeles Lakers, averaging 13.0 points and shooting 40 percent on 3-pointers.
