Cagliari returned to Serie A after a year outside of the elite

The team of Cagliari won the rematch against the team of Bari with the minimum 1:0 of the final playoff to enter Serie "A" and thus returned to the Italian elite after a year. Claudio Ranieri's men forged success in the most dramatic way possible as the scoreline ended goalless after 90 minutes.

Тhe match was headed for a scoreless draw, but in the fourth of the six minutes of added time came the winning goal. It happened after Leonardo Pavoletti received a killer pass, finding himself alone against the goalkeeper, and coolly slotted the ball into the net.

Cagliari's squad thus joins the teams of Frosinone and Genoa who won direct promotion and will compete in the first level of Italian football in the next campaign 2023/2024. They will take the places of La Spezia, who exited Serie A this evening after losing the play-off to Verona, as well as Cremonese and Sampdoria, who were relegated directly.
