Carlos Alcaraz triumphed in Indian Wells and returned to the top of the world rankings

Carlos Alcaraz ended his superb run in Indian Wells with a title, achieving in the final perhaps his most emphatic victory of the tournament - 6:3, 6:2 against Daniil Medvedev.  Thanks to this success, the 19-year-old Spaniard, who did not lose a set in his six matches in Indian Wells, returned to the top of the ATP world rankings.

"This means a lot for me.  To get No. 1 back is crazy for me, Almaras said after finishing the match in one hour and 10 minutes.  - But the trophy is also very important.  I love this tournament.  I really enjoy my time here and of course I felt the love of the people from day one.  It's amazing for me to finish these 10 days like this”.

Already a three-time Masters 1000 champion (his other two titles are from Miami and Madrid), Alcaraz became the ninth and youngest tennis player to win both the Sunshine Double trophies - Indian Wells and Miami, in  your career.

He thus joined compatriot Rafael Nadal as the only players to win at least three Masters 1000 titles as teenagers, with Rafa winning six before turning 20.

In the match against Medvedev, Alcaraz skillfully handled the windy desert conditions.  He started very aggressively and broke early to take a 3-0 lead in the first set.  This was repeated in the second half, in which Carlos won the first 10 points to take a 4-0 lead.

Alcaraz hit 18 winners to Medvedev's five and won 10 of 13 points at the net. At the same time, the young Spaniard was never once put in danger of a breakthrough.  As for the Russian, his performance was somewhat puzzling given his brilliant performance against Frances Tiafoe in Saturday's semi-finals, when Medvedev played one of his best matches of the year.

"Of course, such a victory gives a lot of confidence before the tournament in Miami.  I play amazing.  The conditions are not easy at all and I think Medvedev did not manage to show his best tennis, that's obvious.  All I can say is that I'm really happy with my performance.  I look forward to playing at this level in Miami as well," Alcaraz added.
