Courtois spoke after the injury: You never expect to go through something like this

Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has commented on the injury that has sidelined him and will likely see him sidelined for some time, which could even mean the whole of next season. The Belgian has been diagnosed with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee and will undergo surgery in the near future.

“You never expect to go through something like this. Now I have to embrace it and do whatever it takes to get over it and come back even stronger. Thank you all for the energy, love and support, I assure you that you motivate me to recover as soon as possible," Courtois wrote on his social media accounts.

Courtois has been playing for Real Madrid since 2018. With the "Kings", the Belgian won La Liga twice and lifted the King's Cup, the Champions League and the Club World Cup once. Last campaign, the White Ballet guard made 31 appearances in La Liga and conceded 29 goals as his side won the Copa del Rey, finished second in the Spanish league and crashed out in the Champions League semi-finals.
