Denver coach: We won't settle for one title

The Denver Nuggets ended their 47-year wait for glory by defeating the Miami Heat 94-89 tonight at home to lift their first NBA championship after a six-game losing streak.

"I have news for everyone - we will not be satisfied with one title. We want more," Nuggets coach Michael Malone addressed the audience, which fell into ecstasy with the siren. Malone said that he was inspired by the words of the legendary coach of Miami and Los Angeles Lakers Pat Riley, who is a five-time NBA champion as head coach.

"Pat Riley said something many years ago. I had pinned his message on my board while I was working in Sacramento. It was about the evolution of the NBA, how you start from nobody, become a rookie, then a winner, then a title contender, then a champion. The last step is to go from champion to dynasty," Malone commented after the success.

The coach believes the Nuggets have all the pieces of the puzzle to accomplish their goal, namely a young core of players led by Nikola Jovic who are expected to stay at the club for several more seasons.

"We've accomplished something this franchise has never done before, but we have a lot of young and talented players in this locker room, and I think with these 16 playoff wins, we showed what we're capable of on the biggest stage in the world," Malone added. For his part, two-time MVP of the League and star of the Nuggets Nikola Jokic said that he is not thinking beyond the end of the season.

"I don't think about next year. I will ask the coach to give me a few weeks of rest bonus so that I can be ready for the next season", said the Serbian. At the same time, the great star of Denver admitted that he always believed that the entire composition of The Nuggets are building something special.

"For us, it's not just about the starting five, but about the entire lineup. From day one there was something different about this team and I felt it. I felt a different energy and had a special feeling. I'm not an optimist by nature, but it gave me hope that we can achieve something," said Jokic, who was honored with the Bill Russell Trophy for Most Valuable Player in the finals.
