Firmino is closes to new contract with Liverpool
Liverpools striker Roberto Firmino is close to signing a new contract with the club. The Brazilian's current contract runs until the summer, but he has been negotiating with the Anfield bosses for a long time about extending it and the two sides are close to a deal, claims Sky Deutschland journalist Florian Plettenberg.
According to him, the 31-year-old footballer will extend his stay with the Merseysiders until 2025. Although he has played less recently, Firmino remains an important part of Liverpool's squad and manager Jurgen Klopp personally insists that he remains at the club.
The Brazilian, who was signed in 2015 from Hoffenheim, has 107 goals and 87 assists for Liverpool in 348 games in all competitions so far. Since he has been at Anfield, he has also won a bunch of trophies, including the Champions League, the Premier League title, the FA Cup, the Carabao Cup and more.
The player's agent, Roger Whitman, also confirmed that the forward's new contract is being worked on and negotiations are progressing well, although nothing has yet been officially signed.
"The relationship between Firmino and Liverpool is very long. Roberto feels good here and the talks are going positively. We will probably see in February where our path takes us. Roberto will have the final say on the contract with Liverpool. We are on the right track and our relationship with Liverpool are excellent. They are a great club," said the agent.
