Giannis Antetokounmpo signed a new $186 million contract with Milwaukee
Two-time NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo, who won a title with Milwaukee in 2021, surprisingly signed a max contract extension with the Bucks worth $186 million. “Milwaukeeee!! Let's get it," Antetokounmpo wrote on his X social network profile on Sunday night. The new deal is for three years and includes an option for the player for the 2027/2028 season, ESPN and The Athletic reported. Giannis Antetokounmpo has previously said it doesn't make financial sense for him to sign a contract extension now instead of in the summer of 2024. The deadline for Antetokounmpo and Milwaukee to complete the deal was midnight on Monday, as the new NBA season begins that night.
Antetokounmpo averaged a career-best 31.1 points in 63 games last season and averaged 11.8 rebounds and 5.7 assists. He was named NBA MVP in the 2018/2019 and 2019/2020 seasons, as well as MVP in the 2021 Finals when the Milwaukee Bucks defeated the Phoenix Suns. After last year's early playoff exit as the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference, the Bucks signed Damian Lillard from Portland, proving to the team's star that the title ambitions are there. Giannis Antetokounmpo will enter his 11th NBA season averaging 22.6 points, 9.6 rebounds and 4.7 assists in 719 career games, including 654 as a starter, all with Milwaukee.
