Holger Rune is the second finalist in Monte Carlo
Holger Rune has advanced to the final of the Monte Carlo Masters 1000 red court tennis tournament with a prize pool of €5,779,335. The 19-year-old Dane, who is seeded sixth, eliminated Italian Yannick Siner in the semi-finals 1:6, 7:5, 7:5 in a dramatic match that lasted 2 hours and 46 minutes in difficult weather and wet conditions time.
Siner easily won the first set, and with 3:0 in favor of the Dane in the second, the match was interrupted for 47 minutes due to rain. After play resumed, the Italian managed to equalise, but Rooney took his serve in the 11th game before breaking to take the second set.
In the third set, the 19-year-old Rune had an opportunity to take the 21-year-old Syner's serve in the fourth game, but failed. However, he did that in the 12th and closed the match with 7:5. In contention for the trophy, he will play 2021 finalist Andrei Rublev (Russia), who earlier today had success over Taylor Fritz (USA) 5-7, 6-1, 6-3.
If successful, the Dane will take the fourth title of his career, the second of the "Masters 1000" and climb to sixth place in the world ranking. The final between Rublev and Rune in Monte Carlo will be within today's April 16th (Sunday) at Prince Rainier III Center Court.
