Jones and Ngannou bit each other
The current and former UFC heavyweight champion got into a shootout on social media. Jon Jones tried to discredit Francis Ngannou's claims that he is the "baddest man on the planet" - a term used in combat sports as a synonym for who is the best fighter in the world. The Cameroonian used the term when announcing that he had signed with the UFC's rival Professional Fighting League (PFL).
"How can you call yourself the worst person on the planet when you're across the street?" Jones wrote on Twitter, referring to Ngannou's signing with the PFL, an organization that, despite gaining popularity, is still not up to par. of the UFC. Ngannou did not delay and immediately responded. "Then cross the street," wrote the fighter nicknamed the Predator.
A fight between the two giants looks like it won't happen, as UFC president Dana White has said in the past that he doesn't like the idea of co-events with other chains.
"I will always regret not fighting Jon Jones. In the position I'm in in the sport, I wanted to test myself against someone like him. If I still have the chance to face him, I would. Even for him, it will be a good fight," said Ngannou in an interview with Daniel Cormier.
The African's deal with the PFL not only guarantees him a seat on the circuit's board of directors, and a larger percentage of PPV profits, but will also guarantee a fee of at least two million dollars for each of his opponents on the circuit.
