Man United are preparing an offer for Frimpong in the summer
Manchester United are closely monitoring the development of Bayer (Leverkusen) defender Jeremy Frimpong and are ready to make an offer for him in the summer, "Bild" reveals. The Red Devils have long been interested in the 22-year-old right-back and it would not be a surprise if they took him to Old Trafford.
The club currently have Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka in that position. The Portuguese was Erik ten Hag's first-choice before the World Cup, but injury ruled him out for a while and that allowed the Englishman to get a chance, performing quite well in a few games in the spring. However, the future of 25-year-old Wan-Bissaka remains in doubt and he will have to continue to prove himself until the summer if he is to stay at Old Trafford.
At the same time, Frimpong makes another strong season for the "aspirins". He has experience on the pitch in England, having been a Manchester City youth player. However, the youngster did not manage to break into the first team of the "citizens" and moved first to Celtic, and from January 2021 he plays at "BayArena".
So far, he has 72 games, 7 goals and 12 assists with the Leverkusen team. Bayer will do everything possible to keep the youngster in their squad. However, this could prove to be quite an uphill task if United's interest turns out to be serious.
Frimpong has another two-and-a-half years under contract, but will surely want to try his luck at a higher level, especially as Bayer may not qualify for the European tournaments, further tipping the scales towards a possible separation. At the moment, the price of the footballer is around 25 million euros, which will not be a problem for the "red devils".
