Manchester United are in talks with a new team sponsor
Manchester United are in talks with a new team sponsor to replace TeamViewer. The two sides are in fairly advanced talks and it is very likely that a deal will be reached, writes "The Athletic". The Red Devils signed a 5-year contract with TeamViewer in 2021, but it looks like it won't be fully implemented. The contract was worth £235m or £47m a year. However, TeamViewer is having difficulty repaying these amounts, as the company's shares have fallen by 70% on the stock market.
In addition, it receives a lot of criticism from its investors that it pays too much money for sponsorship contracts, since it also sponsors the Mercedes team in Formula 1. However, this reduces profits. United have reached an agreement with TeamViewer to remove their company logo from the teams as soon as a new sponsor is found. However, the software company will continue to work with the English giants, acting as the club's official partner until their contract expires in 2026.
TeamViewer will almost certainly remain on the Red Devils' teams until the end of this season, as the club do not want to change the design of the shirts mid-season. From next year, however, United will have a new sponsor, which will almost certainly be the technology giant Qualcomm. The negotiations between the two parties are already underway and are in an advanced phase, as it is expected that they will sign a fairly solid contract, in which 60 million pounds per year will enter the coffers of the English club. This would be a much better deal than the one with TeamViewer and would come on top of the one with Chevrolet, which was worth £64m a year.
Since 2022, United has already been working with Qualcomm, promoting the company's brand - Snapdragon, using it as the name of its summer tour. Qualcomm is also working as an adviser to the Red Devils on improving network connectivity at Old Trafford, where they have so far had serious problems getting a good signal for fans' phones at the stadium. Qualcomm will become only the seventh sponsor whose name will appear on Manchester United's kits since the club signed Sharp in 1982. The Red Devils have previously carried the logo of Vodafone, AIG, AON, Chevrolet and currently TeamViewer.
