Marseille hardly beat the latter

The Marseille side took an important step towards earning a place in next season's Champions League by beating already relegated Angers 3-1 in a match of the 35th round of the French Ligue 1.

With the success, the team from the south of France moved 8 points ahead of fourth placed Monaco and will almost certainly play in the "tournament of the rich" next season. The team led by Igor Tudor even has the chance to qualify directly for the group stage of the most prestigious European club tournament, if by the end of the season they fight with Lance for the second place.

Otherwise, the victory did not come easily. Even Angers managed to take the lead when Abdallah Sima opened the scoring in the 28th minute. However, the joy of the guests did not last long and Alexis Sanchez equalized in the 34th minute. The hosts forged the success in the second half.

Very soon after the restart they got a second goal through Dmitri Payet who scored in the 48th minute. In the end, the visitors' desire to take something more out of the match was broken about a quarter of an hour before the end. In the 77th minute, the referee pointed to the penalty spot and Jordan Veretou from a penalty set the final score. Marseille have games against Lille, Brest and Ajaccio before the end of the season and will be hoping for a mistake by direct rivals for second place Lance.
