Medvedev agains overcame the pain in his ankle and is in the round of 12 in Indian Wells

The Russian Daniil Medvedev qualifiedd for the first time in his career for the semifinals of the tennis tournament on the hard surface of the "Masters" series in Indian Wells (USA) with a prize fund of 8.8 million dollars.

Medvedev, seeded at number 5, defeated Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, ranked 23rd in the scheme, 6:3, 7:5 and recorded his 18th consecutive victory. The Russian sprained his right ankle in a hard-fought three-set victory over Germany's Alexander Zverev in the previous round and even considered quitting, but despite the problems, he came through.

"I'm glad that I didn't have much pain in my ankle during the match, because in the warm-up I definitely felt serious discomfort. But I decided to play, I knew I would try. I didn't move well in the warm-up, I took a painkiller, and maybe that helped. With as the match went on I felt more and more comfortable. The match as a whole was really crazy, I can talk about it for 15 minutes, but I'm just happy that I got the victory in such difficult matches and in these conditions with the wind," commented Medvedev.

For a place in the final, Medvedev will meet the representative of the hosts Frances Tiafoe, who removed the champion from 2021 and tenth in the scheme Cameron Norrie (Great Britain) with 6:4, 6:4. Tiafoe, seeded at number 14, will play in the semifinals of the Masters series for the first time. He has four losses in four matches against his Russian opponent so far.
