Milan and Cremonese made a suicide draw
The teams of Milan and Cremonese drew 1:1 at "Giuseppe Meazza" in a match of the 33rd round of the Italian Serie "A", with which they literally killed themselves in the various battles that they lead. The guests opened the scoring with a goal by Okereke (77'), and the hosts equalized with a late goal by Junior Mesias (90' + 3')
The draw left the Rossoneri in sixth place in the standings, while Cremonese remain in penultimate place and missed the chance to close the gap to safety.
Stefano Pioli started in 4-2-3-1, with Tiau and Caluliu taking the brunt of the defense. Meanwhile, in the center of the pitch, Ketelare, Vranks and Benasser stopped the breakthroughs of the visiting team, and Divock Origi acted alone at the top of the attack.
On the other side of the pitch, Davide Balardini responded with a similar scheme. The Cremonese coach also started with four in defence, with Lochoshvili and Kirikesh playing a key role in the second-worst defense in Serie A. Further on the wings, Buonajuto and Pickel took care of the delivery of the ball, and Afena-Ghian had to be as precise as possible in his finishing shot.
Logically, the first shot in the match was scored by the Rossoneri, for whom Divock Origi tried to score from the edge of the penalty area, but his shot was too light and the visitors' goalkeeper caught it.
The home side's superiority in these opening minutes could have paid off when, in the 11th minute, Salemakers finished off the Rossoneri's attack brilliantly and sent the ball into Cremonese's goal, but after reviewing the situation via the VAR system, the referee disallowed the goal for offside.
The disallowed goal did not faze the hosts and in the following minutes they organized an even more whirlwind attack in front of the Cremonese goal. The closest to the goal were Divock Origi and Ketelere, whose shots were not at all weak, but with the shots of both of them, the guard of Cremonese - Marco Carnesecchi, showed a phenomenal reflex, with which he kept the net dry.
After them, mistakes were made by Salemakers, whose goal was disallowed, as well as Ismael Benasser, but their shots were not threatening enough. Shortly before the break, Divock Origi found himself in a comfortable position in the box and headed in a cross, but the ball went wide to the left of the Cremonese goal.
In the second half, the "Rossoneri" continued with their absolute dominance and once again Salemachers was involved in the most interesting situation in the 50th minute when he shot from the edge of the penalty area, but did not hit the ball in the best way and sent it high over the crossbar beam.
An hour after the start, Cremonese also had their chance. Valery from the visiting team jumped for a high ball and knocked it with his head, but did not direct it down, but sent it out over the goal. Over time, Milan got tired and the players in the foreground started making more and more mistakes.
For example, about a quarter of an hour before the end of regular time, Rafael Leao kept the ball and tried to find Olivier Giroud with a lead pass, but he overpowered the ball and the Rossoneri were unable to organize a dangerous attack.
In the 77th minute, the most unpleasant thing happened for the home team. An incredible individual display from David Okereke ended with a shot from the penalty spot that found its way into the bottom left corner and was unsaveable for Menyan.
Soon after the goal, Rade Krunic showed good awareness in the box to curl in a delightful cross from the free-kick, but failed to direct the ball into the net as it flew just wide of the right-hand post to keep the score unchanged.
Even on the contrary. The Cremonese side could have closed out the match with a second goal when Emmanuelle Valery found himself in an advantageous position, but the onside referee raised his flag and adjudged offside.
This played a bad joke on the visitors and after failing to close the game in time with a second goal, they cracked and conceded an equalizer in stoppage time. Junior Mesias became a hero for Milan, who executed a direct free kick from the edge of the penalty area and checked the visitors' guard with a shot in the middle of the goal.
At the end of the game, even Rade Krunic could have given the full set of points for Milan, but Carnesecchi was alert and saved to preserve the point for Cremonese, which will give more to the honor of the club, but take them away from the rescue. The tie was the second in a row for both teams, which moved both Milan out of the top 4 and Cremonese from the Serie A lifeline.
