Osasuna did something unprecedented in the Copa del Rey

Osasuna qualified for the Copa del Rey final after a dramatic comeback against Athletic Bilbao. The team from Pamplona lost 0-1 in regular time at San Mames, but in the 116th minute a beautiful goal by substitute Pablo Ibanez brought the tie 1-1 and sent Osasuna to only the second final in the club's history.

The Yagoba Arasate-led team's achievement is all the more impressive due to the fact that Osasuna are the first team to reach the final after eliminating 4 opponents in extra time. Before Athletic Bilbao, Osasuna eliminated Gimnastic, Betis and Sevilla in this way.

A 1-0 win in the first leg gave the visitors confidence, but Athletic applied strong pressure from the start of the second leg. In the 33rd minute, Ignacy Williams took advantage of a Mikel Vesga pass to open the scoring. Many misses followed for the Basques, who fired as many as 23 shots at the goal, guarded by Sergio Herrera.

And in extra time, the "lions" dominated, but in the 116th minute, defender Ibanez, who appeared from the bench, received a pass from Aymar Oros and silenced the "San Mames" fans. Thus, Osasuna reached a second Copa del Rey final after the one in 2005, which they lost to Betis. In the dispute for the trophy, the team from Pamplona will meet the eventual winner of the pair Barcelona - Real Madrid.
