PSG recalled a negative streak from 2020
Paris Saint-Germain lost 0:1 to Bayern (Munich) in the first leg of the round of 16 of the Champions League and suffered a third consecutive defeat in all competitions. The other two were from Marseille for the French Cup (1:2) and from Monaco in Ligue 1 (1:3).
The last three lost of Parisians were in 2020, and even then the negative streak included matches with Bayern and Marseille. Today, Christophe Galtier's side were unrecognizable before the break and managed just one shot, courtesy of Lionel Messi in the 45th minute.
The Argentine sent the ball into the wall as PSG went without a shot on target for the entire first half in a Champions League game for the first time since 2016's 1-0 loss to Manchester City. Bayern continued their winning streak in the tournament.
After six successes in the group stage, the Bavarians have won their seventh game in a row in the competition, and their goal difference from these matches is 19:2. The German giants have not known the taste of defeat since September 17 last year, when they conceded 0:1 to Augsburg in the Bundesliga. A 20-game unbeaten run in all competitions followed (16 wins and 4 draws).
