Sean O'Malley shocked the world with a knockout over Aljamaine Sterling

Sean O'Malley is the new UFC bantamweight champion. "Sugar" headlined the UFC 292 event which took place in Boston, USA. Opposing O'Malley was champion Aljamaine Sterling, who was considered the best in the history of the division. There were few who gave Sean, who was a big underdog, any chance.

There wasn't much action in the first round. Sterling was quite cautious and tried to land kicks. Aljamain attempted a takedown but failed. At the end of the round, Sterling lands a few shots in the clinch, but nothing serious. Overall the round saw a few kicks from both sides and strikes at the end from Sterling.

In the second round, Sterling landed a kick to the body. The two entered the clinch, then separated. Aljamain tries to hit O'Malley, who lands a Conor McGregor-style counter right on him in the Jose Aldo fight. Sterling falls face down to the floor but manages to recover and O'Malley rains down on him.

Aljamain desperately tries to avoid O'Malley's punches, and the referee steps in and ends the fight. With this win, O'Malley recorded his 5th win in a row. Sterling, on the other hand, breaks away with a streak of 9 consecutive victories. He lost for the first time since 2017.

Aljamain had planned to move up, but said in the interview that he would not and would likely pursue a rematch. O'Malley, in turn, challenged Marlon Vera to a fight in December in Vegas. Vera is the only fighter to beat O'Malley in his career. The two fought in 2020 and Marlon won by TKO after O'Malley's leg injury.
