Sensational turnaround United bring De Gea back three months after his release
Manchester United are considering bringing back David De Gea just three months after the Spaniard was released by the club. The reason for this is that the Red Devils' new goalkeeper Andre Onana will almost certainly play in the Africa Cup of Nations tournament, which will take place between January 13 and February 11, 2024.
Tom Heaton and Altai Byander are the other goalkeepers at Erik ten Hag's disposal, but they have not logged a single minute since the start of the season and there are concerns at Old Trafford that they are not ready to take Onana's place. The veteran Hughton is also constantly dogged by injuries and this means there is a big risk that The Hague will only have one first-team goalkeeper who, on top of that, has no Premier League experience.
The former Inter goalkeeper returned to the Cameroon national team, which he had given up on, in September. He could miss eight Manchester United games over the period he would have played in the tournament. De Gea, 32, who spent 12 years at Old Trafford, failed to find a new club at the end of the summer transfer window.
Many former United players and analysts have expressed the opinion that the club did not treat De Ja with the necessary respect, after negotiating a new contract with him until the end, but after settling Onana decided to withdraw their offer for the Spaniard. De Gea spends much of his time in Manchester, although he currently has no commitments to the club. According to the English media, United will most likely offer him a short-term contract until the end of the season, but it is interesting whether De Gea will swallow the insult and accept such an offer.
