Spalletti is the oldest coach who wins the Scudetto
Luciano Spalletti became the oldest coach to takes the Serie A title. The 64-year-old specialist lifted a first trophy with Napoli and a total of eight in his career. He has two cups and one Italian Super Cup with Roma, as well as two titles, one cup and one Russian Super Cup with Zenit. After the final whistle of the match with Udinese, Spalletti said that he was most happy for the fans.
"Seeing the smiles on the faces of the supporters is the biggest emotion for me. It wasn't easy because we could feel the hopes of the whole city to get here. Some of these people will overcome difficult moments in their lives thanks to the inspiration of our success. They all deserve to be celebrated. Now that we made them happy, I'm calmer," said Spalletti.
"Our main goal was qualifying for the Champions League. Some protested the team last summer and I didn't like that. When I came to Naples, I said I wanted to fight for the Scudetto, and not everyone liked that.
But it was important for me to get the most out of these players and build a winning mentality. Coaches such as Benitez, Ancelotti and Sarri worked with the team. Gattuso won the Coppa Italia. So what other goal could I set for myself besides the title? There was no way I could come and say that we will fight not to be relegated", continued Spalletti.
"I dedicate the success to the players who fully deserved it. The title is also for our fans, for my staff, for all employees at the club. And for my daughter Mathilde. Of course, also to my whole family, who support me constantly. For my friends, for my brother Marcello...", continued the specialist. His brother died only 4 years ago and, mentioning it, Spalletti brokes down in tears.
