They suspected the owner of Manchester City of Russian connections
Manchester City's owner, Sheikh Mansour, was caught up in an investigation organized by British Foreign Secretary James Cleverley. The patron of the "Citizens" is suspected of ties to Russia, reports Goal.com. Mansour, who has owned the Manchester club since 2008, is said by British authorities to have helped Russian tycoons transfer their funds from England to the United Arab Emirates after the start of Russia's military aggression in Ukraine.
The 52-year-old sheikh is the vice president of the UAE and his net worth is estimated at around 16 billion euros. If the allegations made by the British government are documented, he could lose the club. Under new Premier League rules, club owners and directors can be removed from their positions if they are found to be involved in crimes or human rights abuses.
