This is the time since Milan did not have two teams in the last 14 of the Champions League

Milan is among the most footballing cities in Europe thanks to its two giants, Milan and Inter, who have a total of 10 trophies in the Champions League - 7 for the Rossoneri and 3 for the Nerazzurri. However, in recent years both teams either did not participate in the tournament or failed to reach its later stages.

Now, however, both Milan and Inter have qualified for the quarter-finals of the Champions League, which is the first time since the 2005/06 season, when the "Snake" were knocked out by Villarreal at this very stage, and the "Diavola" were eliminated by future champions Barcelona in the semi-finals.

Since then, the "Rossoneri" had only two quarter-finals in the tournament before this year's - in 2006/07, when they triumphed with their seventh trophy, and in 2011/12, when they again lost to Barcelona at this stage. During that period, the Nerazzurri also had just two quarter-finals in the competition - in 2009/10, when they last lifted the trophy, and the following season, when they were beaten by Schalke 04 in a battle for a place in the semi-finals.

Italy could have a third representative in the upcoming 1/4-finals of the Champions League, which has not happened precisely since 2005/06, when Juventus kept Milan and Inter Milan company in this phase. For this purpose, Napoli must eliminate Eintracht (Frankfurt) in their 1/8-final. The Neapolitans host tonight and have a 2-0 lead after the first encounter in Germany.
