Uruguay ended Brazil's record streak

Uruguay prevailed 2:0 over Brazil in a match of the 4th round of the world qualifiers in the CONMEBOL zone. Darwin Nunes 42 min. and Nicolas de la Cruz 77 min scored for the hosts. It was the second consecutive misstep for the Selesao after the draw at home to Venezuela a week ago. The team of Fernando Dinis remained with 7 points, as many as the Urus already have, and the leader with a full asset of 12 points is the world champion Argentina. The defeat in Montevideo ended Brazil's record 37-game unbeaten run in world qualifying.

The team had 28 wins and 9 draws before losing to Centenario in Montevideo. Uruguay recorded its first victory over the Brazilians since 2001. The match did not offer the expected spectacle, especially until the break. In the first 40 minutes, none of the opponents made a shot, but at the expense of this, as many as 17 violations were committed. The Uruguayans managed to open the scoring with their first shot of the match. Maximiliano Araujo broke down the left flank and crossed, and Darwin Nunez headed the ball home with a flying diving header that brought the La Celeste fans to their feet.

This was just the beginning of trouble for Brazil. Seconds before the break, Neymar stepped sideways and grabbed his knee. The Selesao star was visibly in serious pain and could not continue. As he was carried off the field on a stretcher, the striker could not hide his tears. In the second half, the Brazilians tried to change the course of the match. Rodrigo hit the post with a free-kick and his Real Madrid team mate Vinicius Junior twice missed from good positions. Richarlison who came on for Neymar was active, but again failed to register.
