Chelsea came out with a stance on the penalty
The English Chelsea was sanctioned by UEFA with 10 million euros for the financial irregularities that occurred between 2012 and 2019, when the club was managed by the Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich. Now this sanction will have to be paid by the new management of the "blues", who, before moving on to the transfer of the amount in question, came out with an official position on their website regarding the case.
Chelsea FC's ownership group completed the purchase of the club on 30 May 2022. During a thorough due diligence process prior to closing the purchase, the ownership group became aware of potentially incomplete financial statements regarding historical transactions during the club's previous ownership. As soon as the purchase was completed, Chelsea reported these matters to UEFA themselves.
Chelsea fully cooperated with UEFA in its investigation into these matters and, following analysis by UEFA's financial control body, the club entered into a settlement with UEFA. Under this agreement, the club must pay a financial contribution of €10 million to UEFA as a fixed payment.
In line with the club's ownership group's core principles of full compliance and transparency with its regulators, we are grateful that this case has been concluded through proactive disclosure to UEFA and an agreement that fully resolves the issues reported. We would like to formally thank UEFA for looking into this matter. Chelsea greatly values its relationship with UEFA and looks forward to building on this relationship over the coming years.
